A ceremony commemorating Persian Poetry and Literature Day and honoring the renowned Iranian poet Shahriar was held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, with the participation of professors, students, and Persian language learners.
Persian Poetry and Literature Day Commemorated in Kazakhstan

According to the Public Relations Department of the Saadi Foundation, the ceremony highlighted the role of the Persian language and literature in understanding the history and culture of the region and its contribution to strengthening cultural ties among nations.

Agambardiev, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, welcomed the participants and, referring to the historical background of the Persian language in the region, described Iran’s classical literature as one of the factors contributing to the establishment and strengthening of cultural ties among nations.

He also described the organization of academic and cultural programs in the field of Persian language and literature as an opportunity to expand academic and cultural relations, and expressed his appreciation for the activities of the Cultural Consulate of the Islamic Republic of Iran in supporting the Persian language program at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

Sona Ahmadi, Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Almaty, congratulated the participants on Persian Poetry and Literature Day and the commemoration of Shahriar, and highlighted the distinctive features of the contemporary poet’s poetry.

She described learning Persian as an opportunity for students of Oriental Studies to gain a better understanding of the history, culture, and literature of the region, and emphasized the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s support for academic and educational programs related to the Persian language.

Mohammad-Masoud Sadeghi, Cultural Attaché of the Islamic Republic of Iran and representative of the Saadi Foundation in Almaty, also congratulated the participants on Persian Poetry and Literature Day and recited Shahriar’s well-known ghazal “You Came, My Love, But Why Now?”

He then spoke about the circumstances surrounding the composition of the ghazal and discussed the emotional qualities and artistic nuances of Shahriar’s poetry.

In another part of the ceremony, Nurziya, a faculty member of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, presented information about Shahriar’s scholarly and literary personality and referred to several cultural activities aimed at introducing the poet’s works.

She also spoke about the television series “Shahriar,” noting that the series had previously been translated and dubbed by a group of Kazakh professors and broadcast on Kazakhstan’s national television network.

Referring to the representation of several Iranian cultural symbols in the series, the university professor suggested following up on the possibility of rebroadcasting it on Kazakhstan’s national television.

The ceremony continued with a number of students and Persian language learners from the Faculty of Oriental Studies reciting poetry. They presented a selection of Shahriar’s ghazals and other prominent works of Persian literature to the audience.

At the end of the ceremony, professors and faculty members of the Persian language program at the Faculty of Oriental Studies were honored with certificates of appreciation and gifts. Cultural packages were also presented to newly admitted students of Persian Language and Literature.
