Japanese Persian Learners Discuss Peace in Persian Literature

According to the Public Relations Department of the Saadi Foundation, the online session was held to mark Persian Poetry and Literature Day and commemorate the renowned Iranian poet Mohammad-Hossein Shahriar, in cooperation with the Cultural Consulate of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Saadi Foundation’s representative office in Japan.

Shahrouz Falahat-Pisheh, Cultural Consul of the Islamic Republic of Iran and representative of the Saadi Foundation in Japan, referred to the coincidence of Persian Poetry and Literature Day with the International Day of Peace and described Persian literature as rich in themes related to peace, friendship, and tolerance.

Referring to the works of Saadi, he said that in Saadi’s Golestan, concepts related to social life and human relationships are presented through stories and poetry. He noted that many of these stories provide an opportunity to reflect on the foundations of friendship and peace, as well as the factors that lead to disagreement and resentment.

Falahat-Pisheh also referred to the works of great poets such as Ferdowsi and Hafez, emphasizing the capacity of the Persian language to connect today’s Persian learners with Iran’s rich literary heritage.

Referring to the historical and cultural backgrounds shared by Iran and Japan, he said that poetry, literature, and attention to social customs hold a special place in the cultures of both countries. He added that learning about each other’s language and literature can provide a basis for cultural dialogue between the two nations.

The Saadi Foundation representative in Japan also described learning Persian as an opportunity to become familiar with Iran’s culture and literature, noting that Persian language learners are among those who can contribute to expanding cultural ties between the two countries.

In the main part of the session, the 10 participating Persian language learners each spoke in Persian about the concept of peace and friendship and expressed their wishes for peace and tranquility in Iran and other countries around the world.
