New Persian Language Course Begins in Hyderabad, Pakistan

According to the Saadi Foundation’s Public Relations Department, Saeed Hashemi, Cultural Attaché and Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Cultural House and representative of the Saadi Foundation in Hyderabad, referred during the opening ceremony to the historical background of the Persian language in the Indian subcontinent, emphasizing the importance of teaching and promoting the language beyond Iran’s borders.

Referring to the period of British colonial rule in the subcontinent, Hashemi said that colonial policies in the region went beyond the exploitation of material resources and also used cultural influence and the educational system to expand their dominance in social and cultural spheres.

Hashemi added that the influence of Persian on the Urdu language is one of the manifestations of the historical and cultural ties between Iran and the Indian subcontinent, noting that a significant portion of Urdu vocabulary, as well as some of its linguistic structures, has been influenced by Persian.

Referring to the position of Persian throughout different historical periods, the Cultural Attaché of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Hyderabad stated that Persian has historically been one of the important components of Iran’s soft power and has maintained its role despite numerous cultural and historical developments and pressures.

He also emphasized the need to pay greater attention to the teaching and promotion of Persian language and literature at the international level, referring to the concerns of the martyred Leader regarding issues related to the Persian language and the expansion of its teaching around the world.

During the ceremony, Sajjad Nezamani, the course instructor, along with a number of learners, introduced themselves and spoke about their familiarity with and interest in the Persian language, as well as Iranian culture and arts.

The program also included the screening of videos featuring remarks by the martyred Leader on Persian language and literature, as well as poems by prominent Iranian poets and literary figures. These segments were warmly received by the attendees.
